Bayelsa State government is carrying out advocacy on COVID-19 Omicron variant and not enforcement, Commissioner for Health, Dr Newton Igwele, has said.
Igwele, who made this known in a response to enquiry on the situation of enforcement of the Omicron variant in the state, simply wrote: “We are making advocacy and not enforcement.”
It has, however, been noticed that the seriousness with which the state government took the Delta variant appeared to have drastically reduced with the Omicron variant.
It was observed that since the onset of the Omicron variant, the state had not made any policy directive on it.
It was noticed that residents and indigenes of the state had almost abandoned all the coronavirus rules and protocols.
People are seen all over the place not wearing face masks except only in banks where the protocols are still being enforced.
