There was pandemonium in Kuriga town of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State when bandits invaded LEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), and abducted about 200 pupils and a teacher.

Head teacher of the school and some other staff are also said to be among the victims.

A student identified as Rabilu Ahmed, who was shot while trying to escape earlier, and was rushed to the General Hospital, Birnin Gwari, later died.

Jibril Gwadabe Kuriga, a journalist with Radio Nigeria Kaduna and cousin to Rabilu Ahmed, confirmed to Reuters that Rabilu died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The incident, it was learnt, occurred at about 8:20am immediately after the school’s assembly on Thursday.

The junior and secondary school relocated to the school building inside Kuriga town a few years ago due to insecurity concerns, abandoning their former school building located outside the town.

Another resident, Lawal Kuriga, said that the abducted victims were marched into the forest.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official reaction from the state government.

The Overseeing Commissioner in the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, had yet to react.

State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, had also yet to make any statement on the incident.
