Arewa CSOs coalition demands EFCC chairman, Bawa’s resignation

A Northern Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, on Sunday, called on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, to resign or be fired over alleged corrupt allegations.

Chairman of the Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Organisations, Adamu Aminu Musa, in a statement, insisted that Bawa’s resignation had become imperative and sacrosanct in order to save the country’s reputation.

The Arewa CSOs statement alleged, “The fourth executive chairman, Mr Bawa, has been at the centre of so many corruption allegations even before his appointment as the chairman, which was believed to be surrounded by so many controversies and mysteries.”

It accused Bawa of operating like an emperor, using his office to intimidate, harass, and force people to do his bidding, including the banks, other government agencies, and innocent Nigerians, with the backing of his godfather, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The CSOs further alleged that Bawa forced the Director General of NIMASA to sponsor his family members to study abroad at the Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhubaneswar, India.

They also alleged that the EFCC chairman intimidated and harassed the Nigerian Communication Commission into employing his elder brother while he himself employed another member of his family in the EFCC’s Lagos Command.
