Anambra 2025: LP Ozigbo criticizes Soludo’s performance, pledges single term

In a bid to uphold the existing zoning arrangement in Anambra State and address concerns about governance, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, an aspirant for the 2025 governorship election under the Labour Party (LP), has vowed to serve only one term if elected.

Ozigbo, who previously contested on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), made this commitment during an interactive session with media practitioners in Awka.

Emphasizing the importance of zoning and competence in leadership, Ozigbo stated, “Zoning is a good thing, but it must be combined with competence to make sense.”

He pledged to adhere to the principle of zoning and proposed a single term of four years, highlighting the progress achieved by other leaders within a similar timeframe. Drawing inspiration from former Governor Alex Otti’s tenure in Abia State, Ozigbo asserted, “Four years is enough time to do a lot of work.”

Reaffirming his commitment to the zoning arrangement, Ozigbo referenced the stance of LP leader, Mr. Peter Obi, emphasizing that a southerner elected under the LP banner in 2025 would serve only one term.

He expressed readiness to formalize this commitment through an agreement, underscoring his determination to honor it.

Critiquing the performance of incumbent Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Ozigbo highlighted perceived shortcomings in governance. He suggested alternative approaches to leadership, emphasizing the importance of listening to the people and implementing inclusive policies.

“Governance is not all about being an autocratic leader,” Ozigbo remarked. “You have to listen to the people and know their problems.”

Reflecting on past political experiences, Ozigbo acknowledged instances of betrayal within his former party, the PDP. He lamented the challenges faced during his previous campaign, emphasizing the need to identify trustworthy allies and minimize betrayal.

“We were betrayed last time because even though we saw the signs, we ignored them,” Ozigbo admitted. “This time, when we see any sign, we will act immediately to minimize the betrayal level.”

Addressing concerns about insecurity in Anambra State, Ozigbo urged unity among party members and emphasized the significance of the 2025 election as a pivotal moment for the state’s future.

Despite acknowledging the challenges of contesting against an incumbent, Ozigbo expressed optimism about his candidacy and underscored his commitment to effective governance and accountability.

As the countdown to the 2025 election continues, Ozigbo’s pledges and criticisms highlight the complex dynamics shaping the political landscape in Anambra State, setting the stage for a fiercely contested campaign and an uncertain electoral outcome.
