Alleged tenure elongation: FG set to replace FRSC Corps Marshal, Biu

…pencils down senior deputy Corps Marshal as his successor

Strong indications have emerged that the Federal Government is set to replace the incumbent Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Biu.

Biu may be compulsorily retired from service despite his lobby for an extension of tenure, it was learnt.

Feelers from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) indicate that pressure is being mounted for a replacement of Biu as he is said to have exceeded his years of service.

Biu was expected to retire from service on October 11, 2023 upon the attainment of the age of 60 years.

Already, a senior Deputy Corps Marshals has been penciled down to take over from Biu as the new FRSC boss.

According to a memo from the Corps Secretary, Assistant Corps Marshal Susan A Ajonge, Mr Biu ought to have commenced his retirement leave by July 11, 2023.

A retirement notice addressed to the Corps Marshall, reads, “Your retirement from the Service takes effect from October 11, 2023 after 35 years of service.”

Biu was therefore advised in the memo that “your terminal leave would commence from July 11, 2023.”

The memo titled, “Pre-notice of retirement from service of FRSC,” dated February 22, advised the Corps Marshal to liaise with the Corps pension office, Administration and Human Resources Department, RSHQ immediately for appropriate documentation.

But Biu, who was one of the pioneer staff of the Corps at the formation of the FRSC, is said to still be lobbying for an extension of service.

He is, however, fighting tooth and nail for tenure extension, it was learnt.

A very reliable source stated, “This is a career public servant that was 60 years last year and 35 years of service this year.

“If Biu succeeds in goading the Presidency to ascent to his request for tenure elongation, it means he will be serving for 16 years as Director and to retire from public service at the age of 68 years old.”

He was second in command to the former Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, who handed over to him in 2021.

Biu has been in charge of the Administration and Finance departments of the Corps for 12 years before his confirmation as the substantive Corps Marshal in 2021.

According to a source in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Corps Marshal has been lobbying for extension, thereby inhibiting progression in the Corps.

But efforts made to get the reaction of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the supervisor of the FRSC, did not yield results.
