Abia gov-elect, Otti, sets up transition c’ttee, says he’ll run slim govt

Dr. Alex Otti, the Abia State governor-elect, inaugurated his transition committee on Friday and pledged to run a small government with few political appointees.

The Labour Party candidate promised to approach things in a unique way in order to produce better outcomes.

At the Committee’s inauguration in Aba, Otti gave the members the task of creating a policy blueprint for his administration.

Otti, who also pledged to establish a Ministry for Aba, stated that the importance of the state’s largest city for commerce led him to choose Aba as the location for the committee’s inauguration.

“We intend to run a slim government in terms of political appointments, but then it is our intention to create enough opportunity for businesses to thrive and succeed in the State.

“We have chosen Aba for this inauguration today because Aba is the heartbeat of Abia’s economy despite the fact that it has been abandoned for many years by successive administrations.

“We want to build an industrial hub with steady power supply, renewable energy and other solid infrastructures for the economy of the state to grow”.

Otti appointed a committee of professionals, technocrats, business experts, and entrepreneurs to establish a strong foundation for rescuing and developing Abia State.

He plans to engage them more for the state’s advancement, stating that the old order is no longer effective.

Otti thanked the committee members for accepting to serve the state, urging them to prioritize Abia’s interests.

Victor Onyenkpa, the committee chairman, acknowledged the enormity of their task and promised not to betray the trust placed in them. He pledged to produce a roadmap to help the Governor-elect meet Abia residents’ expectations.

The committee comprises accomplished Abians from various political backgrounds, including Aruma Otteh, former boss of the Nigeria Exchange Commission, Chief Chuku Wachuku, pioneer Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Chief Uneh Kalu, SAN, former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and Monday Ubani, SAN, a legal luminary.

Their goal is to provide a roadmap that would enable Alex Otti to perform a miracle in transforming Abia State.
