Oyo East Local Government of Oyo State has confirmed the death of one of the Oyo kingmakers, and a member of the Oyomesi Traditional Council, High Chief Abdul-Rasheed Shehu.
Alapinni of Oyoland was said to have passed on in the early hours of Sunday following a bout of an undisclosed ailment.
The deceased kingmaker will be buried on Sunday afternoon l according to Islamic rites at his family’s compound.
A statement by the local government on the demise of the Alapinni, read, “With a heavy heart, and submission to the will of Allah, the Management of Oyo East L.G regrets to announce the passing of the High Chief, the Alapinni of Oyo Land, Alh Abdul-Rasheed Shehu early this morning Sunday 18th Sept. 2022.
“Burial arrangement will come up at his residence today at 4:00PM. May Almighty Allah repose his soul in Aljanna Fridaus.”
Alapinni’s death is coming amid the tussle over the race for the stool of the Alaafin of Oyo.
The High Chief had reportedly been absent at the ongoing screening and interview of the aspirants vying for the stool of Alaafin of Oyo.
This was said to have been due to his ill-health. His absence had, however, generated concerns.
