Suspected armed robbers, on Thursday, shot dead no fewer than nine persons during an attack on the Isanlu branch of the First Bank in Kogi State.
Eye witnesses told First News that victims included eight policemen and a civilian.
Residents said the Isanlu Divisional Police Officer, five other policemen and two female police officers were among those killed by the robbers.
It was learnt that while the DPO, the two policewomen, and four policemen were killed at the Police Station, one policeman was killed at the bank’s premises.
The civilian victim, a male, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet during the attack.
First News gathered that the gang of robbers stormed the Police Station about 1.00 p.m., opening fire on all officers and men on duty.
The robbers also broke into the cells at the station and set free all the detainees.
The gang members were said to have later stormed the First Bank branch in the town, where they killed one of the policemen on duty before greaking into the bank’s vault to cart away large sums of money.Police spokesman in the state, William Ayah, confirmed the robbery attack, but said that the number of casualties could not be immediately ascertained.
