Relief will soon come the way of residents of Sango-Ota as the Ogun State Government is to immediately embark on clean-up and re-designing of all drainage networks in the ancient town.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya, disclosed this when he visited the town on an environmental inspection tour.
Oresanya said the exercise which is in conjunction with the Ado-Odo Local Government, Traditional Chiefs and Communities Development Associations would, apart from cleaning and redesigning of all existing drainage network, also maintain and construct new ones where necessarily.
He said this would not only bring relief to the residents, but also preserve government investments in road infrastructure in the town.
Oresanya said, “The state government has commenced lots of roads in Ota-Ijoko, Ojuore and Idiroko Road have been completed.These are investment in infrastructure and one thing that will threaten them is drainage issue.
“So, we want to preserve them through good drainage network as we don’t want a situation where we are careless and come back next year and find out that the roads are gone.”
The Commissioner also said the state government would work with the local government authorities to curb street trading to improve traffic flow in the town.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, Hon Sheriff Adewale Musa, affirmed the collaboration with the state government on the clean-up and redesigning of drainage network as well as street trading.
He said that the exercises would be carried out without any pain or discomfort to the residents of Sango-Ota.
