Suspected armed kidnappers have stormed the Agbedo —Akpanya market in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one Johnson, and abducting other traders.
The kidnappers have, however, demanded the sum of N20M as ransom to set free those abducted from the market.
The gunmen were said to have, in their large numbers, invaded the market on Sunday at 2 pm, shooting sporadically to scare people.
In the pandemonium, a trader simply identified as Johnson, was hit by stray bullets and died. The gunmen abducted one other person identified as Edwin and unspecified number of many others, whom they whisked into the bush.
According to family sources and residents, the gunmen have demanded a ransom of N20m for the release of those abducted and still in captivity.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, stated that it was a case of invasion of the market during which one Johnson was killed, and another person, Edwin, was abducted along with many others in the market and taken to an unknown destination.
The PPRO added that the police authorities have deployed a crack team to the areas to bring the situation under control while linking with the stakeholders in the community to move against the suspects in a view to arrest them for prosecution.
The incident was the third consecutive time gunmen would invade the market, abduct people and demand ransom.
