Nigerian athletes will once again take to the field and tracks to haul medals for Nigeria as the 2022 Commonwealth Games is set to begin today July 28 in Birmingham, England.
The opening ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held later tonight at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The competition begins from July 28 and ends August 8.
Over 5,000 athletes from 72 Commonwealth nations will jostle for 283 medals in 20 sports with Nigeria represented by 94 athletes competing in 7 sports.
The Nigerian contingents includes 41 men and 52 women led by Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Aruna Quadri and Blessing Oborodudu are top contenders for podium finish in Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Para powerlifting, Table Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
Nigeria finished 9th on the medal table in the 2018 edition in Gold Coast, Australia with 24 medals consisting of 9 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.
The county’s best ever outing was in 1994 in Victoria, Canada where she finished 4th overall with 11 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals.
