The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, also known as, The Academy has invited Nollywood actors Funke Akindele, Daniel K. Daniel and director Blessing Egbe to its class of 2022 members.
Funke Akindele and Daniel K. Daniel were added to the Acting category for their roles in “Ọmọ Ghetto: The Saga” and “The Fugitive,” “A Soldier’s Story” respectively while Blessing Egbe was added to the Directors category for “African Messiah,” and “Iquo’s Journal”.
The trio are among 397 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
In a bid to promote representation, the 2022 class is 44% women, 37% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 50% are from 53 countries and territories outside the United States.
If they accept the invitation, they will participate in the Oscars nomination and winners voting process.
Last year, Ramsey Nouah Jr., Mo Abudu and U.S based director Andrew Dosummu were admitted as members of the 2021 class.
