The Rivers State All Progressives Congress screening for the primaries of the 2023 general elections at the party secretariat along Woji Road, GRA, Port Harcourt, witnessed a protest and gunshots.
Hundreds of the members of the party in the state loyal to a former federal lawmaker, Senator Magnus Abe, were seen at the premises, protesting and claiming that the state assembly aspirants’ screening and ward/state delegate selection had been hijacked.
They said that they were at the secretariat as early as 6:00 am only to meet the gate under lock and key.
Meanwhile, what prompted the shooting at the secretariat was when some of the youths attempted to open the gates by force, a development that led to policemen stationed inside the party secretariat shooting into the air.
As a result of the shooting, there was tension in the area with journalists covering the event and the protesters running to seek where to hide.
