The Actors Guild of Nigeria has blamed Chiwetalu Agu over the alleged beating he suffered in the hands of Nigerian soldiers and subsequent arrest.
The guild, however, said it was in talks with the Nigerian Army in efforts to free the comedy actor from their custody.
Chiwetalu, was allegedly molested and later arrested by Nigeria soldiers at upper Iweka road, Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday, for putting on Biafra apparel.
It was learnt that the soldiers caught him in the outfit while he was sharing food to the less privileged persons.
Two soldiers were said to have tussled him to the ground and dragged him away.
Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army Public Relations, speaking on the incident said that the veteran actor was arrested for inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
But the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, reacting to this in an interview with newsmen, denounced the fact that the veteran actor was seen wearing a Biafra outfit.
He said, “I don’t know why he put on Biafra regalia. The State is hot and he knows this.”
Rollas, however, said, “We are in talks with the military officials to ensure he is released. We will do our best.
“I heard they have taken him to 82 Division of the Nigeria Military base.”
