Residents in Ikorodu area of Lagos were thrown into commotion when a two-story building collapsed and killed the landlord, Pastor Daniel Obasi.
Our correspondent gathered that the house, which was located at 77, Tapa Road, Oke-Ojo, Isawo in Ikorodu, was under construction before the incident occurred.
A resident who spoke with our correspondent said the landlord was inspecting the ongoing work when the building fell on him.
It was a sad case. We all ran to the place to see it. Initially, we thought he was not dead, but when efforts paved the way for him to be removed, we saw his dead body. It was a sad day for the family because I learned he was there to inspect the project” Adebola said.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, while confirming the incident said Pastor Obasi was the only victim.
According to him, the incident occurred at about 2.30 p.m on Tuesday, adding that the deceased body had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ikorodu.
“The cause of the collapse was suspected to be inadequate timeline to allow sand-filled land to compact properly before the construction started,” Farinloye said.
He, however, said an investigation would be carried out to ascertain the cause of the collapse.
