The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has again suffered rejection as a House of Representatives member, Kabiru Amadu, on Wednesday dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Amadu, from Zamfara State, disclosed his rejection of the major opposition party in a letter the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, read during Wednesday’s plenary.
According to Amadu, after consultation with the people of his constituency, he made up his mind to join the APC.
The development witnessed opposition as Tobi Okechukwu, Deputy Minority Leader, kicked against the position of the speaker on the matter.
He accused him of failing to abide by the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution by allowing mass defection of PDP lawmakers to APC.
But Gbajabiamila objected to the statement and said it was unparliamentary.
With the defection of Amadu to the APC, six PDP lawmakers from Zamfara have now dumped the opposition party as the governor of the state, Bello Matawalle, did recently.
