Teenage Nigerian goalkeeper Owen Goodman has signed a new deal with a Premier League club, Crystal Palace.
Goodman follows in the footsteps of very promising youngster Arthur Okonkwo whose new three-year contract was confirmed by Arsenal on Friday, July 9.
Through their official website, Crystal Palace announced that professional contracts have been awarded to eight academy players.
The 17-year-old Goodman has signed his first pro deal at Palace along with Dan Quick, Cardo Siddik, Aidan Steele, Dylan Thiselton, Noah Watson, Jack Wells-Morrison and Joe Whitworth.
Though the length of contract signed by the eight players was not disclosed, FIFA’s regulations on the status and transfer of players state that players under the age of eighteen cannot sign a professional contract for a term longer than three years.
Goodman has been rewarded with a new contract after helping Crystal Palace finish runners-up in the U18 Premier League South in 2020-2021.
He registered four appearances in the U18 Premier League and made his FA Youth Cup debut against Fleetwood Town last December.
