A clash between rival gangs in Opoo, Inalende and Abebi areas of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital as of Friday morning, has claimed no fewer than 11lives.
Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, while confirming the incident, said there were some casualties.
But he added that he couldn’t give the number of casualties involved.
The PPRO said, “The story is true.
“Investigation is ongoing to establish the number of casualties and circumstances that led to the incident.
“Meanwhile, additional operatives have been deployed to the scene to maintain law and order. You would be updated in due course, please.”
It was, however, gathered that members of the Odua Peoples Congress, have mobilised their members for a reprisal attack on the youths in the areas.
On Thursday night, no fewer than six persons were killed when the OPC stormed the area to avenge the attack on its members by the youths.
Four OPC members were said to have been killed while the Yoruba group, on its part, had allegedly killed seven boys in Opoo area.
A resident said one Baba Alausa, the father of one of the victims, Qudri Alausa, had instructed relations to bury his son’s remains in his house in Apete.
According to him, “Eleven people were killed. Seven Oopo youths and four OPC members.
“As I speak with you, the OPC has begun to mobilise their members to attack the Oopo youths again.
“In fact, we heard they have told police to steer clear of the area. Just stay where you are. Don’t move around, please.”
Another resident said nobody in the area could venture out of their houses while security agencies were helpless.
“It is true. Men of operation burst are everywhere but they are helpless.
He said, “Police cannot do anything. We need the government to mobilise soldiers to help them. We cannot go to Jumat today. The area is very tense.”
