Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, says the £4.2m looted by former Delta State governor, James Ibori, but recently released to the Federal Government by the United Kingdom, has been returned to the coffers of the state.
The accountant-general disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday while appearing before the House of Representatives’ Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilisation.
Idris, who answered questions from the committee for more than an hour, stressed that such funds looted from the treasury of a state are always returned to that particular state.
He, however, noted that states have the powers to sue the Federal Government to recover such funds.
