60 PDP Reps threaten to quit party, demand chairman’s resignation

Sixty People’s Democratic Party members in the House of Representatives, on Monday, threatened to leave the party if the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, refuses to resign immediately.

The lawmakers said Damagum should immediately be replaced by someone from the North Central in line with the constitution of the party, among other demands.

They accused the acting chairman of handing over the structure of the leadership of the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja in company with five other lawmakers, Hon Ugochinyere Ikenga, issued the threat on behalf of the 60 PDP lawmakers.

He accused the Acting National Chairman, who he alleged had been engaging in anti-party activities of selling the party “for a plate of porridge.”

Ikenga noted that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not been consistent in opposition over the years, he would not have succeeded as Nigeria’s President today.

They urged Damagun to go before he’ll completely destroy the party.

The Reps members, however, threatened that if their demands are not met, they would defect from the PDP and move to join other political parties.
