30 feared dead, others injured as bandits rampage through two Katsina LGAs

A wave of terror swept through several villages in Dutsinma and Safana local government areas (LGAs) of Katsina State, leaving a trail of death and destruction as armed bandits launched coordinated attacks.

Eyewitnesses reported that thirteen villages were targeted in the onslaught, with residents fleeing to safer areas in fear for their lives.

The affected villages, including Dogon Ruwa, Sabon Gari Unguwar Banza, and Tashar Kawai Mai Zurfi, among others, bore the brunt of the violence unleashed by the bandits.

The attacks, which occurred on the evening of Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, resulted in the loss of thirty lives, according to initial estimates.

Despite ongoing efforts by security agencies and government interventions to combat insurgency in the region, Dutsinma and Safana LGAs remain vulnerable to frequent banditry.

Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos and panic as residents sought refuge in neighboring communities, such as Dutsinma, to escape the relentless violence.

Responding to inquiries, the spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in Dutsinma LGA.

However, details regarding the attack in Safana LGA were yet to be provided.

Authorities continue to assess the situation as efforts to restore peace and security in the affected areas intensify.
