A new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ayim Abraham Eyong, has taken over the mantle of leadership at the Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State.
Eyong replaces the late AIG, Don Awunah, who died last month after a brief illness.
Spokesperson for the zone, CSP Ikwo Kevin Lafieghe, said in a statement on Tuesday that the new AIG was the third in the line of AIGs that had presided over the Zone 16 headquarters covering Bayelsa and Rivers states.
Eyong, who spoke after assuming duty at the zonal headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, promised to bring his professional and intellectual exposures to bear on his work of superintending the affairs of the two states within the zone.
The new AIG hails from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State was commissioned into the Nigeria Police as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1988.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography and regional planning from the University of Jos.
AIG Eyong was described as a dogged crime fighter and operational guru who has held several positions in the strata of the Police Force.
Untill his recent appointment, promotion and posting, he was a Commissioner of Police (Administration) in the Department of Finance and Administration, Force headquarters, Abuja.
