Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have deployed 95 per cent of its personnel to ensure that critical infrastructure in Akwa Ibom is well protected during the yuletide.
Commandant of NSCDC in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Samuel Fadeyi, who said this on Thursday in Uyo, added that yuletide always comes with influx of visitors into the state.
He noted that the agency had planned ahead of time to ensure peace and security.
Fadeyi said, “We have deployed 95 percent of officers and men during this festive period to ensure that activities of criminals are short-lived. You can see a lot of things may want to happen, which we do not want.
“The aim is to ensure that the security of lives and property is guaranteed. The main objective is to ensure the protection of government critical assets and infrastructure which is our core mandate.”
The commandant said that the command would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure hitch free Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He said that the command would deploy personnel to churches to protect worshippers during the period.
He said that the command had also mapped out all flashpoints in the state to ensure peace throughout the celebrations.
He urged residents, worshippers, and fun makers in the state to go about their activities in line with COVID-19 protocols unmolested, stressing that adequate security has been put in place.
Fadeyi added, “We have mapped out all flashpoints and all our men undercover will be available at strategic locations to ensure safety of lives and property.
“We will collaborate with other security agencies and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) around the major roundabout in the city to ensure a free flow of traffic throughout this season.
“Our men will be visible in all malls and recreational centres in the state, to ensure fun seekers enjoy themselves without any hindrance.”
He warned criminals and those wanting to foment trouble in the state to stay clear as security operatives would deal decisively with troublemakers.
He reminded private security guards in the state of their role in the security architecture, to furnish relevant security agencies with information within their areas of operation for prompt action.
The state commandant commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom for the donation of patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state.
