Yobe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Goni Bukar Lawan, has died after a fatal car crash involving his vehicle on Tuesday night on his way from Kano State.
The incident was confirmed by The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi on Wednesday.
Abdullahi said the incident happened at about 6.15 pm on Tuesday adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Dambam – Potiskum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state.
According to him, personnel from the Dambam Station office rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation when the FRSC was notified of the incident.
“The lone fatal crash happened on Tuesday at about 6.15 pm and immediately we were informed, our men rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.
“The incident happened along Dambam – Potiskum road, adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Kum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state”, Abdullahi added.
“It involved a government vehicle, a Lexus Jeep – GX 470 – with registration number: 11A01YB.
“The vehicle was driven by Hon. Goni Bukar Lawn and he was with one other male adult when the crash happened. The other person sustained some injuries.
“The crash was caused by a speed violation which led to a loss of control.”
He further added that the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force of the Dambam Divisional Headquarters evacuated the victims to the Dambam General Hospital for treatment and confirmation while the vehicle had been cleared off the road to allow free traffic flow along the area.
