Nigerian music sensation, Yemi Alade, has called out Lagos-based radio stations Cool FM Nigeria and CloudAfrica FM, accusing them of blacklisting her music over her absence from one of their events.
Taking to X, singer shared that Cool FM had invited her to perform at their December 2023 event, but she couldn’t attend.
Despite reaching out to apologize, Alade claimed her gesture was met with cold silence.
Unknown to her, this absence allegedly led the station managers, Mr. Serge and Mr. Joseph, to blacklist her music from their platforms for nearly a year.
“Mr. Serge and Mr. Joseph, this life is not hard like that. WE SEE YOU… I SEE YOU @cloutafrica @CoolFMNigeria. This world is a small village. My God will fight for me… Una dey form gatekeepers in 2024,” Yemi wrote in a fiery post.
According to her, the stations went as far as erasing her entire music catalogue from their playlists, barring their DJs and presenters from playing any of her tracks, old or new.
“Since December 2023, I personally reached out in January. You are still refusing to play my music and giving my team a hard time. You’re not gatekeepers, and you are not God, Mr. Serge Noujaim and Mr. Joseph Adamu,” she lamented.
Yemi didn’t hold back, further accusing them of intimidation and attempting to ‘play God.’
“The common decency to reach out and clear up any misunderstanding caused by sheer carelessness on your part for a whole year, and your next move is to place an embargo on my songs? Remove my whole catalogue,” she wrote in another tweet, expressing her shock and frustration.
The incident has sparked conversations about power dynamics and fairness within the Nigerian music industry.
