WRAHP, CFLI host 2-day training to empower young advocates on SGBV reporting in Lagos

In a strategic collaboration, the Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP), Ireti Resource Centre Managers, and the Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) held a 2-day training on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Reporting for Young Advocates from Secondary Schools in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State.

The event held at the Egbe-Idimu Community Town Hall on March 6th and 7th, 2024.

Recognizing the growing prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence, particularly among adolescents and young adults, the program aims to provide young advocates with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully detect, report, and prevent SGBV in their communities.

Ms. Bose Ironsi, Executive Director of WRAHP, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, saying, “Providing young activists with the tools and knowledge they need to effectively confront SGBV is critical in our joint efforts to create safer and more inclusive communities. Through our work with CFLI, we hope to nurture a new generation of change-makers who will champion the cause of ending SGBV in Lagos State.”

The two-day program covered a wide range of topics, including understanding the dynamics of SGBV, identifying warning signs, assisting survivors, navigating reporting channels, and pushing for policy change and community support.

Goals of the Training include: to increase young activists’ understanding of the occurrence and effects of sexual and gender-based violence, to provide participants with practical skills for identifying and responding to incidents of SGBV in a sensitive and effective manner, and to empower young champions to drive change in their schools and communities by actively participating in SGBV prevention and response activities.

WRAHP, known for its dedication to advancing women’s rights and community health Lagos and other states, continues to spearhead new programs to solve major social concerns and foster long-term change.
