An advocacy group, Stand Up for Women Society (SUWS), Bayelsa State chapter, has taken its ‘Save The Girl-Child Campaign’ to boys of Bishop Dimeari Grammar School (BDGS), Ovom, Yenagoa, the state capital.
The sensitisation programme which took place on the school premises on Saturday rounded off the group’s campaign started three months ago.
The State Coordinator, SUWS, Eunice Nnachi, lamented that the boy child was not receiving adequate attention as their plight was being suppressed by the society.
She observed that aside the girls, the boys were also victims of rape and other abuses in the society.
She, however, urged the boys to stay away from drugs, cultism and other social vices occasioned by peer group pressures.
Also speaking, the Local Government Coordinator of the group, Tekinyo Theophilus, explained that the campaign was as a result of the rising violence among the younger generation.
She called on other like-minded groups to take up the challenge and assist in carrying the campaign around the state in order to instill the right positive mindset on the younger generation.
Masters Daniel Desire and Sokari Joshua, students of BDGS, applauded the gesture of the group.
They noted that the sensitisation was an eye-opener and called on stakeholders and government at all levels to give the group the necessary support to enable it to reach out to the vulnerable persons in the society.
