President Muhammadu Buhari is insisting that the Indigenous People of Biafra must be designated as a terrorist group by western allies.
This was contained in a written response to questions posed to him by Bloomberg News.
Buhari said, “We urge those same international partners to take additional steps costing them nothing, by proscribing another group – IPOB – as a terrorist organisation.
According to him, it was necessary to brand IPOB a terror group because “their leadership enjoys haven in the West, broadcasting hate speech into Nigeria from London, spending millions lobbying members of the US Congress, and freely using international financial networks to arm agitators on the ground. This must stop.”
Nigerian government has since declared IPOB a terrorist group but its western allies have refused to see the South-East group, agitating for the Independent of Biafra from Nigeria, as a terrorists organisation.
FirstNews earlier reported that Buhari in the written response to questions by Bloomberg endorsed the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as his worthy successor, and also defended the presidential aspiration of the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, during the recently concluded primaries for the 2023 general elections.
