… condemns killing of Borno rice farmers
Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Bayelsa State, Comrade John Bipre Ndiomu, has condemned the gruesome killing of rice farmers in Borno State.
Ndiomu, who doubles as the Bayelsa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees, described the killings as an inhuman, senseless and a total setback on food security in the country.
The NLC chairman, who was recently honoured with the United Nations ‘Distinguished Leadership Award’ in recognition of his outstanding contributions to human rights field, spoke on Thursday to select journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, on the 2020 United Nations International Human Rights Day.
He warned that any further attacks on their members under any guise anywhere in the country would be resisted and be meted with serious industrial actions in the agriculture sector.
Ndiomu, therefore, urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts in flushing out the insurgents in the Northeast.
He reiterated that NUAAE, an umbrella union of all agric workers, both in public and private sectors, was deeply pained by the unprovoked killing of its members.
Speaking on his award, Ndiomu appreciated the organisers – NGM Group in collaboration with the Centre for Leadership and Governance for finding him worthy of the honour.
