We Will Support Kamala Harris: Putin Jokes About Backing US VP in 2024 Election

In a surprising and lighthearted statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared his support for US Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Thursday, Putin jokingly stated, “We will do the same, we will support her,” referencing Harris’ candidacy against former President Donald Trump.

Putin’s remark was made with a chuckle, adding a sense of humor to the discussion.

“She laughs so expressively and infectiously that it means that everything is fine with her,” he added, acknowledging Harris’ characteristic laughter.

While the comment appeared to be in jest, it carries weight given Russia’s controversial history with US elections.

The Russian president went on to address the broader political landscape, noting that although Trump is often perceived as his ally, the former US president imposed the most sanctions on Russia during his time in office.

“Ultimately, the choice is up to the American people, and we will respect that choice,” Putin remarked, taking a more measured tone.

The remarks come as Trump, the Republican nominee, continues to defend his foreign policy approach, including his handling of relations with Russia. Last month, Trump praised Putin’s leadership, claiming that if he were president, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine.

“I would have stood up to Putin,” Trump asserted.

In the 2016 election, US intelligence agencies accused Russia of running a disinformation campaign to boost Trump’s chances against Hillary Clinton, accusations that Moscow has consistently denied.

The specter of Russian interference continues to loom over the 2024 election, with Moscow once again facing allegations of involvement in the race.

While Putin’s statement may have been delivered with a sense of irony, it underscores the enduring complexities of US-Russia relations and the potential influence of foreign powers in American politics.

With the 2024 election fast approaching, both candidates will likely face scrutiny regarding their ties to Moscow, whether real or perceived.
