The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that two towers along the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines were vandalised, leading to blackouts in parts of Kano and Kaduna states.
In a statement on Friday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the damage, adding that the company is deploying its “emergency restoration system” to temporarily restore power while the damaged towers are reconstructed.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria announces that two towers along its 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines 1 and 2 have been vandalised, damaging parts of both transmission lines,” the statement read.
The vandalism affected towers T133 and T136, with cables damaged in several spots. TCN explained that the first transmission line tripped, followed by the second while repairs were underway.
Although TCN did not directly link the damage to bandits, the incident occurred in an area recently affected by violence, including the killing of 13 farmers in the Shiroro community.
The company has conducted an aerial survey with security operatives and is working to supply power to the Kaduna and Kano regions through the 330kV Kaduna–Jos transmission line.
“We are, however, committed to re-erecting the towers and restringing the transmission lines to restore bulk power transmission,” the statement concluded.
