UTME: JAMB Assures No Candidate’ll Write Exam Outside State of Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that no candidate will be required to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outside their state of registration.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday, April 15, in Abuja, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, addressed concerns raised after some candidates were assigned mock test centres outside their registered states.

He explained that the relocation only applied to the mock examination because not all approved Computer Based Test (CBT) centres were activated for the mock.

“If centres for mock in Abuja are filled up and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates will be sent there,” Benjamin said.

He assured that this would not happen during the main examination, as more centres would be operational. He said candidates would be posted strictly within their states of registration and residence.

He added that how early a candidate registers also affects how close their assigned centre will be. If nearby centres are full, the system assigns any available centre within the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Benjamin acknowledged technical hitches experienced during the mock exam and apologised to affected candidates.

He noted that the board expected some challenges because of new features introduced to improve the conduct of the main UTME.

“The mock examination serves as a trial version of the UTME, allowing the board to test new innovations while helping candidates familiarise themselves with the CBT environment,” he said.

“Over the years, this initiative has successfully achieved its objectives, addressing noted lapses and equipping candidates with valuable experience for the main examination.”

“JAMB urges all candidates to continue making the necessary sacrifices to ensure a better examination experience that effectively serves their interests,” he added.

The 2025 UTME is scheduled to commence on April 25.
