UK to Ban Ninja Swords as Knife Crime Crisis Escalates

In a bid to combat rising knife violence, the UK government has announced a ban on ninja swords, with offenders facing up to six months in jail—a penalty set to increase to two years under forthcoming legislation.

The ban, set to take effect on August 1, is part of Ronan’s Law, a broader anti-knife crime initiative named after 16-year-old Ronan Kanda, who was fatally attacked with a ninja sword in 2022.

According to the Home Office, ninja swords typically feature a straight blade between 14 and 24 inches with a sharply angled tip. While carrying weapons in public already carries a maximum sentence of four years, the new ban aims to further restrict ownership and possession.

The government’s latest crackdown underscores growing concerns over knife crime, with Home Secretary James Cleverly stating that the measures are necessary to prevent more tragedies and make UK streets safer.
