Senate Council, University of Ibadan, has resolved to name the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor on Monday pending the resolution of the ongoing crisis, FirstNews Online can authoritatively reveal.Recall that the election of a new Vice-chancellor has thrown the university community into a state of confusion, as interested parties, including the outgoing Vice-chancellor and the Council Chairman, are now at loggerheads over the likely successor.
This development had propelled the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to order for a fresh selection process for the new Vice-chancellor.
Council Chairman, Mr. Waklek alongside the outgoing Vice-chancellor, Professor Olayinka, was alleged to have attempted to impose a particular candidate on the Institution.
However, the Council Chairman, Mr. Waklek has refuted the claim, submitting that there was no iota of truth in the allegations.
He said, “The allegations are not true. But you know when people are not happy with something they can say anything. The issue has been such that I wouldn’t want to talk to the press now. If you wouldn’t mind, you would have to call back.”
“We are holding a meeting on Monday. So we can still talk after then.”
FirstNews gathered that the meeting scheduled for Monday would, aside from making a decision on an acting VC, also deliberate on a timetable for the selection process to start all over again.
“I can tell you now that the meeting on Monday is to set a new timetable for the selection process and to decide on the appointment of an acting VC,” a source said.
