Nigeria’s Under-20 national women’s team, Falconets on Sunday, August 14, beat South Korea 1-0 to qualify for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Falconets started the game at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto, Alajuela, pressing the Koreans in their box but their opponents grew back into the game to counter the Falconets.
Due to severe weather conditions, the match was suspended but that did not deter the Falconets as Esther Onyenezide’s 54th minute shot was blocked by South Korea’s goal keeper
Falconets goalkeeper Oyono Omini also had to save a fierce shot by Eunyoung Lee in the 64th minute.
Esther Onyenezide broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute to score Nigeria’s only goal in the match, enough to secure the three points for the ladies.
Nigeria will now face Canada in their final group game in the early hours of Thursday.
