Tunji-Ojo Orders Probe into Delta Prison Crimes

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into shocking allegations of criminal activities within the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.

This directive comes in the wake of a recent armed robbery incident in Delta State, which was allegedly traced back to inmates of the facility raising grave concerns about security lapses within the correctional system.

In a statement released on the 4th of February, 2025 in Abuja, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Babatunde Alao, relayed Tunji-Ojo’s firm stance against such misconduct.

The minister strongly condemned the alleged reprehensible behaviour, warning that any form of indiscipline or breach of duty would not go unpunished.

Reaffirming his commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s correctional service, Tunji-Ojo declared:
“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my watch. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law.
The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service must provide explanations. We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities.”

Furthermore, the minister called on the general public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in uncovering the truth behind these alarming claims.
