Tottenham are set to ask the Premier League to postpone their fixture against Brighton this weekend due to their Covid-19 outbreak, with Antonio Conte describing the situation as ‘serious’.
Eight players and five members of Spurs’ backroom staff have tested positive this week.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Conte said: ‘We have prepared for the game against Rennes but it is difficult.
‘At the end of the training today another player tests positive, another member of staff tests positive.
‘And tomorrow, who? Me? Another member of staff? The situation is serious.’
Conte’s side are due to play Rennes in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and that game is still expected to go ahead as UEFA’s rules state that clubs must fulfil their fixtures if they have 13 players, including a goalkeeper, available.
But Spurs will make a request to the Premier League to postpone their match against Brighton on Sunday due to the outbreak.
The Premier League makes their decisions on a case-by-case basis and six matches were postponed last season due to Covid.
In October, Spurs had two players test positive for Covid but their Premier League fixture against Newcastle United was able to go ahead.
Spurs have already had one postponement this season after their Premier League fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor was called off due to heavy snow last month.
