The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has admitted that policies introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have intensified economic hardship across Nigeria.
This admission came from the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, in a statement responding to criticism from the former APC National Vice Chairman (North West), Salihu Mohammed Lukman.
Lukman had accused the APC of failing Nigerians under both President Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari, suggesting that they had not delivered on their campaign promises.
He also called on opposition parties to unite in preparation for the 2027 elections to defeat the APC-led government.
In his rebuttal, Morka explained that while the economic challenges have worsened, Tinubu’s reforms are necessary to address long-standing issues.
“The APC-led administration of President Tinubu is taking bold measures to reset our country’s long-broken economy, improve national security, and restore the country to wholesome and sustainable development,” Morka said.
He acknowledged the increased economic hardship, stating, “No doubt, these inevitable reforms have increased economic hardship for our people. In fact, the unwillingness of previous administrations to undertake these reforms and tackle the problems at their roots is the reason the economy has remained in the doldrums for a long time.”
Morka defended Tinubu’s actions, noting that it would have been easier for the president to continue “business as usual,” but instead, he has chosen to confront Nigeria’s “generational economic problems” for the long-term benefit of the country.
“In the fullness of time, this President shall be vindicated for his vision and unwavering commitment to the national interest and the common good of all,” Morka asserted.
In response to Lukman’s criticism, Morka accused him of seeking attention since his departure from the APC’s leadership.
“Salihu Lukman’s hunger for attention is insatiable,” Morka stated.
“Since his exit as a National Vice Chairman of the APC, Lukman has been sleepless in search of political relevance. He seems to have found for himself, for now, a new role as the chief discordant trumpeter for a cacophonous political opposition.”
Morka dismissed Lukman’s allegations of economic mismanagement and corruption, calling them “empty and outlandish.”
He criticized Lukman for inconsistency in his political stance, describing him as lacking conviction and unqualified to advise Nigerians on voting decisions.
Morka concluded by accusing Lukman of trying to “divert attention from the administration’s substantial progress” and of pursuing a “selfish agenda.”
This development comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges, with many citizens feeling the effects of Tinubu’s bold but controversial policy reforms.
