Dr Olisa Agbakoba, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has asserted that there is no constitutional process to postpone the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President on May 29, 2023.
In a statement, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria emphasized that Tinubu’s inauguration would proceed according to constitutional procedures, regardless of the petitions filed against him and the ongoing Tribunal in Abuja.
He said, “It is important to state that the inauguration of Mr Bola Tinubu on 29 May 2023 is bound to happen under our constitutional process.
“While the election tribunal deals with the petitions there is no constitutional process to delay the inauguration on 29 May. We need to obey the rule of constitutionalism.”
Agbakoba’s statement reaffirms the adherence to constitutional principles and the rule of law in the presidential transition process.
He underscores that the inauguration date remains fixed, and any legal challenges or petitions should follow due process within the established judicial system.
The former NBA President’s position aims to promote a smooth and constitutionally sound transition of power.
