Tinubu Set to Reshuffle Cabinet Based on Ministers’ Performance — Presidency

The Presidency confirmed on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu is preparing to reshuffle his cabinet soon, basing the changes on performance evaluations of his ministers.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and Senior Special Assistant on Digital/New Media, O’Tega Ogra, revealed the President’s plans during a joint briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Onanuga indicated that while no exact date has been set, the President has “expressed his desire” to carry out the reshuffle. “I don’t know whether he’s going to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it,” Onanuga said.

Ogra added that the decision to reshuffle would be informed by “empirical evidence” from performance reports compiled by Hadiza Bala-Usman, Special Adviser on Policy Coordination and head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit.

The reshuffle follows months of pressure on Tinubu’s administration to address underperformance within his cabinet. Reports suggest that ministries could be restructured, including the possible dissolution of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

President Tinubu has previously stated that ministers and officials would be evaluated regularly and removed if they failed to meet objectives.

“If you are performing, nothing to fear. If no performance, you leave us,” he said at a retreat for ministers last year.

This approach marks a shift from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which maintained a largely unchanged cabinet throughout his tenure.
