Tinubu Reacts to Latest Plateau Bloodbath, Demands Action from Gov Mutfwang

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the latest wave of violence in Plateau State, which has left over 40 people dead, calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to show political will in addressing the deep-rooted communal issues fueling the crisis.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, Tinubu expressed “profound sorrow” over the tragic loss of lives and charged the Plateau State government with finding a sustainable path to peace.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” Tinubu said, describing the killings as unacceptable and vowing to bring those responsible to justice.

“I have instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts. We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue. Enough is enough,” he stated.

While commending the people of Plateau State for their resilience, Tinubu emphasized that unity and love must prevail above ethnic or religious sentiments. He urged leaders across all levels—community, religious, and political—to unite in ending the cycle of retaliatory violence.

He also reiterated the Federal Government’s readiness to work with the Plateau State government in fostering dialogue, ensuring accountability, and promoting long-term reconciliation.

“These problems have been with us for more than two decades. We can no longer ignore the underlying issues. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a lasting solution,” Tinubu said, noting he had previously discussed possible strategies for peace with Governor Mutfwang.

The president’s intervention comes amid mounting public pressure to bring a decisive end to recurring violence in Plateau, which has become one of Nigeria’s most volatile flashpoints of ethno-religious conflict.
