If elected president next month, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress has maintained that the petrol subsidy scheme must cease.
In a brief interview with Freedom Radio while on his Umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, Tinubu made this pledge.
The APC candidate for president characterized the subsidy regime as anti-poor.
According to him, successive governments’ subsidy payments were nothing more than a waste of money that could have been used to meet the needs of the populace. He made this statement to a radio station in Kaduna.
The ormer governor of Lagos State claimed that subsidies benefited the wealthy the most and should be stopped.
“I will ensure we end the wastage and re-channel the money to the people who truly need it,” Tinubu said.
