President Bola Tinubu on Sunday expressed sympathy to the government and people of Enugu State following a tragic fuel tanker explosion on Saturday that claimed several lives.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the incident along the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway as devastating. He also prayed for the souls of the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the injured in this unfortunate incident. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may those receiving treatment recover quickly,” Tinubu said.

The president called for strict adherence to road safety measures, particularly among fuel tanker operators, urging caution to prevent future tragedies.

Tinubu also directed traffic enforcement agencies to implement additional safety measures nationwide to curb similar incidents.

This directive comes in the wake of another fuel tanker explosion in Niger State days earlier, which claimed over 80 lives.
