Tinubu Converts Nok Varsity to Federal University of Applied Sciences

…Orders Immediate Takeover, September Takeoff

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate takeover of Nok University, Kachia, Kaduna State, by the Federal Government, renaming it the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

This follows a Federal High Court ruling ordering the final forfeiture of the private institution to the government. Tinubu has also instructed the Minister of Education to ensure its inclusion in the 2025 budget for a September commencement.

Speaking at the formal handover of the university’s assets by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Presidential Villa, Vice President Kashim Shettima described the move as a fulfillment of Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive national development.

“This is a great day for the country and for Kaduna State. The credit goes to President Tinubu for driving the process and making it a priority,” Shettima stated.

Commitment to Education and Infrastructure

Reaffirming the government’s support for Southern Kaduna, Shettima announced that Tinubu has also pledged major road construction projects in the region to complement the efforts of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

Governor Sani hailed the university’s takeover as a historic achievement for the people of Southern Kaduna and expressed gratitude to the President and Vice President for their roles in making it a reality.

“The peaceful coexistence and inclusion of all interests in Kaduna is a deliberate policy of my administration, and we will continue to ensure it,” he assured.

National Impact and Economic Growth

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who sponsored the bill for the university’s establishment, emphasized its significance, stating:

“This institution will not only provide access to quality education but also create jobs, boost economic growth, and strengthen the social fabric of our community.”

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa described the university’s establishment as proof of Tinubu’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s human capital through education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukayode confirmed that the university’s assets—academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center—were officially transferred to the Federal Government following the February 4 Federal Executive Council resolution.

A Symbol of Unity and Progress

Top dignitaries, including General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd.), Bishop Matthew Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Defence Chief Gen. Christopher Musa, praised Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing the university’s establishment.

“This is not just a victory for Southern Kaduna but a project that will serve all Nigerians,” Gen. Musa stated.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, is now set to admit its first set of students by September 2025, ushering in a new era of scientific and technological education in Nigeria.
