Tinubu Convenes Emergency Meeting as Rivers State Crisis Deepens

President Bola Tinubu is currently leading an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as political tensions in Rivers State reach a boiling point.

The high-stakes gathering brings together principal officers of the National Assembly and top security chiefs amid escalating political unrest in the oil-rich state.

At the heart of the crisis is a fierce power struggle between factions loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The standoff has intensified, with lawmakers allied with Wike reportedly pushing for Fubara’s impeachment.

While the official agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, sources suggest discussions will focus on the unfolding political turmoil and possible interventions to restore stability.

Present at the closed-door session are Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

Security chiefs, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, State Security Service (SSS) Director-General Adeola Ajayi, and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Mohammed Mohammed, are also in attendance.

Adding to the concerns, the meeting follows a pipeline explosion on the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area.

The blast, which occurred late Monday near the Bodo-Bonny Road, has further heightened security fears in the region.

With Rivers State on edge, all eyes are on the outcome of the high-level talks as the nation awaits decisive action to prevent a deeper crisis.
