Golf legend Tiger Woods shared the heartbreaking news on Tuesday that his mother, Kultida Woods, had passed away, describing her as “my biggest fan.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Woods, a 15-time major champion, revealed that his mother passed away early in the morning. “It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” he wrote.
He went on to describe her as a powerful and loving figure in his life, recalling her undeniable spirit and warmth. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, and greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”
Woods also reflected on the love his mother received from her grandchildren, Sam and Charlie, stating, “She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren.” He concluded with an emotional tribute, thanking everyone for their support and asking for privacy during this difficult time. “Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”
Kutilda, a Thai national, met Woods’ father, Earl, when he was stationed in Bangkok during the late 1960s. Throughout Woods’ golfing career, Kultida was a constant presence on the sidelines, cheering him on during his greatest triumphs.
Woods has often spoken fondly of his mother’s influence on his career, even admitting that he feared her more than his father.
In one interview, Woods said, “He [Earl] was very worldly and deep in his thinking. My mom was the enforcer. My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom’s still here and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. She was the hand, she was the one, I love her so much.”
The passing of Kultida Woods marks a significant loss for Tiger Woods, who credits much of his success to the unwavering support and love of his mother.
