Team Nigeria’s para powerlifter, Esther Nworgu, has secured a silver medal in the up to 41kg category at the Paralympics, lifting an impressive 118kg.
Nworgu made history by breaking the Paralympic record twice during the competition, first with a 112kg lift and then surpassing it with 118kg.
The gold medal was clinched by Chinese lifter Cui Zhe, who set a new Paralympic Games record with a 119kg lift.
The competition was intense, with Zhe having the advantage of lifting after Nworgu.
Nworgu’s silver is Team Nigeria’s second medal at the Paralympics.
Earlier, Eniola Bolaji earned the country its first medal, a bronze, by defeating Kozyna Oksana of Ukraine 21-9, 21-9 in the Women’s Singles SL3 badminton category.
