Atsi Kefas, the sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has died after being accidentally shot by a police escort during a bandit attack.
The incident occurred last Thursday along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area, when gunmen attacked Atsi and the governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, as they traveled.
During the chaos, a police officer assigned to escort the family accidentally shot Atsi while attempting to fend off the attackers.
Atsi Kefas was taken to a hospital in Abuja for advanced medical care but succumbed to her injuries late Monday night.
The governor and his family are yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic incident.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in parts of Nigeria, where banditry and attacks on travelers continue to pose significant risks.
