Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, on Wednesday, confirmed that Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the recent murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Mr Usifo Ataga, is a student of the University.
Chidinma, 21, allegedly stabbed Ataga to death at a service apartment in Lekki, Lagos.
She had also confessed to killing Ataga when the Lagos State Police Command paraded her on Friday; claiming that she did it under the influence of drugs when the deceased tried to forcefully have sex with her.
Ojukwu was also reported to have admitted that she had been in a romantic relationship with 50-year-old Ataga for about four months before the ugly incident occurred on June 15, 2021.
UNILAG’s management had kept silent since the news of the incident broke out, but the VC, during the 2018/2019 pre-convocation press conference on Wednesday, disclosed the particulars of the suspect.
Ogundipe admitted that the suspect is a part-time student of Mass Communication with matric number 17170912015.
According to Ogundipe, “From our record, Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu is a student of the University of Lagos.
“She was born on December 12, 1999.
“She is from Abia State. Her contact address is 57, Akinwumi Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos.
“Her next of kin is Mr Ojukwu Onoh. We cannot deny the fact that she is a student of the university but the matter is a national issue and we cannot discuss more than this.”
But the vice-chancellor stated that the university is following due process in handling Chidinma’s case.
“We have heard and read what happened, but we are following due process. We will make sure that the recommendations from the appropriate committee on this matter are implemented,” he said.
