Super Eagles Maintain 39th Spot in Latest FIFA Rankings, Move to 6th in Africa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained their 39th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on Friday. Despite hopes for an upward climb, the Nigerian national team remains in the same spot globally but saw an improvement in their continental standing, now ranked 6th in Africa.

This latest ranking comes after Nigeria’s mixed run of form in recent matches, including both victories and setbacks in their international friendlies and qualifying campaigns.

The team’s continental rise comes as a sign of progress, with Nigeria surpassing countries like Algeria in the African rankings. However, top-ranked African nations such as Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia still lead the pack on the continent.

With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) fast approaching in January, the Super Eagles will look to maintain or improve their rankings through solid performances in upcoming matches.

The team’s fans are hopeful that the squad can continue to gain momentum under head coach José Peseiro as they prepare for AFCON and future World Cup qualification.

Nigeria’s football federation and key stakeholders will now look to maximize the talent in the squad, which boasts top stars playing in major European leagues, to secure victories and push Nigeria higher in both the African and global rankings.

The Super Eagles’ next match could be critical, as they aim to close the year on a high note and bolster their standing among the world’s elite.
